In week 45 we had line swap week here at the Top. Then the students could try lines other than their own, regardless of what they go to usual. Folkehøgskole is all about new experiences, so what better than the opportunity to try something completely different from what you usually do?
Do something creative!
There are many creative students here at the school, who walk both creative and active lines. It was good to have lots of creative options this week! One of them is, for example Creative Mixwhere they started the week with Theatrical play and improvisation. Then they sat down and worked on guerrilla brooding. This was new to most people, but for some it hit so well that they have started doing it in their spare time!
Another creative option was Streaming and Live Production. Here, the line-swapping students were able to give their creativity free rein with access to good quality cameras and other equipment. This resulted in a number of funny movies, in the form of everything from documentaries about life at the school, to a newscast that explored the rumors that Toppen is the best folk college in the world.
There were also great opportunities for those who wanted to do so. music this week. On the line Music students solved exciting tasks, as well as learning about sheet music. There were students with a wide range of previous experience. Some had been actively engaged in singing or an instrument for several years, while for others it was completely new. Educational and fun It happened anyway, and at the end of the day everyone had something to do for the others!
In addition, students could choose Music production. Here they learned the basics of using the software Ableton, and then they could enjoy themselves make your own music! Also on E-Sports One could spend those days in front of the screen. The students here explored new gaming, or enjoy themselves with games they already knew.
Do something active!
Nor was there a shortage of opportunities for those who would be out and active. On Sports and Outdoor Activities there was both basic training, various ball games, and mountain hiking. The students really used their bodies well!
Don't be tempted, you might as well enjoy life outdoors with Outdoor Activities LettThat made a lot of difference these days! Here you could rappel outside, climb inside, hike in beautiful pine forest, and enjoy yourself around the fire with sticks of bread and coffee. They also fried apples with sugar and coconut, and invited anyone who wanted up to the school's vantage point to enjoy it with them.
Some also felt the river calling, and these could choose Mountain sports and kayaking. Dressed in dry suits and wool to keep warm, they started the week swimming in the river to be safer. The rest of the days they sat down in their school kayaks and taught themselves the basics of river paddling. Here was a big smile and a lot of sense of mastery!
This week, students have tried their hand at both quite similar and completely different lines than what they usually do. A lot of people have done things they didn't think they'd dare or have the opportunity to when they got here. That's exactly what we at the Top will offer — namely the chance to explore both Versatility in yourself, and Diversity around you. Thus, line change week is a perfect opportunity to gain new experiences, new knowledge, new challenges and a sense of mastery. Maybe some even bring newfound interests further in life?
