The top — where you get everything and a little more

One of the best things about going to college is that you can choose for yourself what you want to do. The folk colleges have a huge variety of lines to choose from, and you are sure to find something to your liking! At the same time, it can be difficult to choose between two widely different interests. What if you want to be on stage, but also be out on the mountain? After all, humans are much more than just active or just creative; just musical or just fond of E-sports. And we think that's a great thing! That's what's so great about the Top, because here you don't have to choose just one thing — you can say yes thanks, both!

Elective

As a student at the top, we have many electives to choose from, and they cover a wide range of different interests! To name a few, you can choose judo, ukulele, choir, writing workshop, spikking, board games, volleyball and strength training. Thus, you have the opportunity to try lots of different things and make your everyday life very varied, which sets us apart from some other schools. How many places can you, for example, walk a line like Sports and Outdoor Activities, and also participate in staging a whole theatre play and go on tour in Trøndelag, as they do at elective theatre? Or e.g. go CREATIVE MIX and take electives with weekend courses where you paddle sea kayaks on the beautiful Helgeland coast and take a Wet Pass?

If there's something you're missing, you can start your own. student-led evening activity! This year, for example, we have had students who started a knitting club, year-round swimming and a photography club.

Line Swap Week

In addition to the variety of everyday life, we have certain weeks that are set aside specifically to be able to try new things, or to explore interests other than those related to the line. The line-change week we had in the fall was one of those weeks. Then the students could try out another line than their own, regardless of what they go to usual. For example, we had students from Music production who paddled river kayaks, and pupils from Outdoor activities LETT who were into music, whether they had done it before or not. This was a great opportunity to do something completely (or just a little) different from what you normally do.

Everything-and-little-to-the-week

Later this spring we will also have elective week. Instead of regular teaching this week, students will be able to have an elective they can immerse themselves in these days. This could be similar to what they do on the line, or something completely different. For example, they can choose climbing, band, photo, jazz dance or snow and skiing. There are plenty of opportunities to do something fun! We have had elective week in the spring semester for many years and it is always a great success!

Diversity offers opportunities

The variety of different lines at school also creates the opportunity to be in on lots of cool! For example, had Music A pre-Christmas concert with students from Outdoor activities LETT, Sports and Outdoor Activities, and Streaming and Live Production were featured and performed. Such opportunities can set us apart from schools that are, for example, pure outdoor recreation or pure music schools. Besides, this diversity does something wonderfully nice about the environment, because when you live close to so many different people, there's not one particular box you have to fit into, and then it becomes even easier to be yourself! You also get to know a lot of people who are quite different from yourself, and people who you first think you have nothing in common with may end up becoming friends you take with you for the rest of your life!

If you want to delve into one thing, you can of course choose electives and extracurricular activities accordingly. But the nice thing here is the possibilities you have to unfold multiple sides of yourself, and cultivate several different interests at the same time. You can try a multitude of new things, and maybe you discover a whole new interest you would otherwise never have tried? That's what's so nice about going to a community college where you have the opportunity to try everything — and some more.
