At Vefsn you have the opportunity to choose between X electives, and X major electives.
Do you want a year where you can improve your shape while enjoying community college life? Have you been sure for a long time that you need to get started with training? At Exercise — Health — Lifestyle, exercise is fun. It does something to the results.
Snow and skiing is a practical and theoretical elective with a focus on snow. We go on walks and get to know the build-up of snow and try to find the best snow for us as a group to drive in. We delve into the characteristics of snow and learn how to interpret the weather and snow conditions to our advantage.
You will need skis with traps — Ski equipment, splitboard or mountain skis with traps.
We meet to play chess together. The elective course is for both beginners and advanced students. Collaboration with the chess club in the city.
Overnight trip to Stavassgården, which is the main gateway to Lomsdalen-Visten National Park. We go for a walk, cook good food on a campfire and enjoy ourselves in front of the fireplace. Boat and fishing possible in Stavvatnet. Participation fee 200, -
We calm down and focus on awareness of our own body and posture. We work on strength, stability, flexibility and balance.
If you love writing, and want to find your expression and your voice, this is the place to be. Writing workshop is a creative oasis where thought turns into text. Inspiration and writing desire guarantee.
If you like high tempo ball sports, this is the subject of choice for you. There will be some technique training, but mostly games. We play games against local teams.
You will receive basic training in climbing and securing techniques on top ropes. We have variety based on the group's level and we do sessions with climbing technique, play-based exercises, simple route screwing. Top rope- ice climbing with ice axes (weather precaution). Possibilities of “top rope card” (fee 200, -). In elective week.
Both for beginners and advanced. Great for those who need to use their body, and for those who like some action and fun. Here you have the opportunity to grade from yellow to brown belt. Price 200, -
If you are interested in film, this is the subject of choice for you. We watch current films together, talk about the film and the surrounding story. Sometimes we watch feature films, other times documentaries. Cuddle factor included.
We play what ever there is an interest in, as long as it includes a ball. Football, handball, volleyball, floorball, basketball and baseball. A little technique training, but mostly games. In elective week.
We put on a production together, and play a performance for the others at school. Sometimes we take it out on the road too. Take a chance and throw yourself into it.
We practice basic skills in volleyball, doing exercises against the phases of the game (various server, receiving and attacking). Technique training, but mostly games.
Everyone is welcome, regardless of level!
You choose for yourself whether you want to knit or crochet and what it will be. You will receive help and encouragement along the way. You have to buy yarn and equipment yourself. A really pleasant afternoon.
An elective for those who like to live healthy. You will, along with our skilled chefs, learn how to cook delicious and nutritious food. And not least eat it afterwards! Useful knowledge it is good to know for you as a coach or until you are going to move for yourself. Price 200, -
In this elective subject, you will receive training in climbing. You will learn basic climbing technique and securing a climbing buddy on ropes with rope brake. At the end of the period, you will have the opportunity to get a certification. Course fee 200, -. For certification 200, - (additionally).
We hire dance teachers from Balance dance company to give you some extra spice in your chosen subject. Different styles at will, but mostly rhythmic/modern. Concludes with a show for the other students.
We bring out the good old Norwegian recipes and cover up for the festive table. It will be both baking, frying and boiling, and most likely a lot of things you have never done before. In the election week.
If you miss playing football, this is your choice. There will be some technique training, but mostly games. We play matches against local teams and attend tournaments.
Become steady and independent on the sewing machine, and learn the basic techniques of sewing. It is both smart and trendy to learn how to re-sew clothes or reuse fabrics. We go to thrift stores or find things from our own wardrobe, which we can conjure into something new. Or we find patterns, buy clothes and make things from scratch.
Here we are going out into nature! Harvesting from nature is both sustainable and healthy. We take care of berries in gardens and vegetables that are sorted away. We harvest crops in the forest and learn to prepare the raw materials together with the chefs in the kitchen - to the delight of everyone at school.
Learn to create nice things in wood. It can be your own hiking cup or a Greenland paddle for sea kayaking. Some other “small projects” such as magic wands, figurines, etc. can also be worked on.
Price: NOK 200-400 based on the material requirements of the project.
Have you paddled sea kayaking before or would like to learn? The conditions for paddling are fantastic here at Helgeland, and just right below the school we can paddle on our way.
Here you will be introduced to both basic and advanced tools and techniques to be able to do what you want with photos. In the election week.
Join us in the dog park! Here you will have the opportunity to get to know the different aspects of having a dog. Feeding, grooming, training methods and lots of cuddling.
Here's where you get to nerd in the coffee business. You'll learn more about the process from coffee beans to taste sensations, and you'll learn everything from hand brewing, espresso-based drinks and Latte Art. This elective subject powers our Sunday cafe, so you'll have plenty of time to perfect the art. We work with the city's baristas.
Do you like to draw and paint, or do you want to bring out a creative joy you had as a child? Want to tinker and explore form?
You get to play with charcoal, chalk, pencil, marker, in various formats and with different motifs. You will get to try different painting techniques and use of colors. Here you will be guided to find your distinctive character and your streak.
Want to impress with your photos? Learn basic techniques to take good pictures. Exposure, perspective, composition, motive, depth, etc. Both for mobile camera and other types of camera.
We live in an area with unlimited opportunities to get great pictures of nature. Come out and learn how to immortalize memories of your best nature experiences.
Learn to make your own knife from beginning to end. How stylish is it to be able to pull out a knife you made yourself, when you are going to nail sausage sticks on a trip?
Want to learn some traditional dance arts? We turn on the music and swing around with “old dance” (waltz, polka, reindeer lender etc), swing and salsa.
An elective where you can make everyday life pleasant and meaningful for people living at home with dementia. Having a cup of coffee, knitting, going for a walk or chatting can all be ways to get a bright spot in your everyday life. Certificate of practical training from Vefsn Municipality to all who are approved for the elective subject.
Being able to fix something yourself for the coffee is a nice thing. Not least because it is so much cheaper and better than buying in the store. Here you will learn how to impress with something homemade. We bake cakes and yeast baked goods for our own pleasure and for the school Sunday cafe.
Have you tried disc golf (frisbeegolf)? We work with the local club and get training from the best. Then we train and play disc golf (frisbee) on Helgeland's finest 18-hole disc golf course. Beginner or pro. Everyone can join!
You will learn the basics of guitar playing and will teach you how to play familiar tunes. You can start on the elective subject with zero knowledge. You can borrow the ukulele. Own guitar is nice to have.
We assemble and paint miniatures from the Warhammer universe. Even if you don't play Warhammer or other miniature games, miniature painting itself is a wonderful hobby. Price 200, -
Prepare for life after folk high school! In adulthood there is a lot of knowledge that one would like to have, in this elective subject you will learn everything from smart money spending, starting your own business, hooking up a lamp on the ceiling and maintaining a car. One exciting elective with new content every time!
This is the profession of choice for the most adrenaline-hungry. The main emphasis is on safe driving, skidding and skiing. Randonee ski and seeker gear is mandatory.
We try to climb several of the most beautiful peaks on Helgeland, such as
Oksskolten (Northern Norway's highest), The Seven Sisters, Dønnamannen et al.
Activity-based outdoor recreation is an elective that takes as a starting point the desire and conditions for choosing an activity. If it rains, we can play in the river or kayak. If there is snow we can go skiing and when the sun comes out we can go hiking. The goal is to try different activities depending on the weather and conditions!
For those who love to sing and want a little more than just singalong. Fresh repertoire. Concerts at school and for invitees.

CLUB NIGHT FOR OTHERS
Through this elective, you get the chance to contribute for others. We organize activity evenings for people with a variety of functions. Here we focus on togetherness and joy! Internship certificates are issued to those undertaking this elective subject, and there may be gold to hold when applying for a job later.
YEARBOOK
We collect pleasant material from the year that is nice to remember later. It'll end up in a memory book that you'll take home when we're done.
BAND
Play in band with other music-loving students.
We rehearse for a concert that we play for the others at school. For anyone who has played a bit before and wants to play a bit more. With the possibility of playing more concerts.
E-Sports/Gaming
E-Sports/Gaming is an elective for those who like to play and compete in games. We aim to do this together. We explore popular titles such as Tekken, FIFA and Mario Kart, creating a social environment around gaming fun and team play. If you have your own equipment, you can also spend your time on PC games.
