Sustainability

Vefsn Folkehøgskole Toppen wants to focus on sustainability and solidarity. We are trying to spread it in more arenas, something you will notice both in everyday life and in our involvement in projects.

United Nations Sustainability Goals

We underpin the UN's sustainability goals when we have thematic sessions with us. We want to challenge students considering all aspects of being a sustainable society. Here we discuss, among other things, physical and mental health, equality and equality, personal finances, gender identity, responsible consumption and production, justice, etc.

Aid and solidarity

We have a collaboration with the organization Gambia Care, and are working on an aid project where, among other things, we sew menstrual pads for girls so that they can continue their schooling even after they reach puberty. The Fellows who have a study trip to Gambia arrange to hand them over.
All the students participate in the aid race where we raise money for the project.

Source sorting

We focus on source sorting and low consumption with us. We reuse what we can and sort waste so that the waste can also get a new lease of life.

Transportation

With us, there is never more than one flight on the line during the year. As we depend on driving on Helgeland, we are working to replace our fossil cars with electric cars in our daily driving. We also encourage students to cycle and walk as much as possible when they are going to get around the local environment in their spare time.

Dugnader

We are a member of Keep Norway Clean, and cleans beaches when we are on walks by the coast.

Sustainable cuisine

We are committed to reducing food waste and shopping locally and short-haul when planning our menus. We have several meat-free days a week.

Redesign and reuse

We have elective redesigns and through this we want students to become better at seeing potential in what would perhaps become container food.
