Many people choose to take half-year courses at Toppen, and there are different reasons for that. Who is the half-year course suitable for? We asked some of the people who took the fall course with us this year.
Who is half-year autumn suitable for?
It may be best suited for those who do not have the option of a full year due to finances, study, first time service, work or want to travel.
Why did you choose to take a half-year course in the fall with us?
I chose the half-year course because I'm going into first-time service in January, and therefore had half a year where I didn't know what I was going to. That's why I chose folk high school at the top.
What positive and negative sides are there with half-term harvest?
Positive aspects are that you can go to folk high school even if you do not have the opportunity to stay for a whole year. So that if those who are going to the first service can also go to folk high school. It is also cheaper with a half-year course. The negative side is that you get to know a lot of nice people and make good friends from whom it is sad to leave. Especially when you know all the fun things that are going to happen in the next six months. For some, it can also be a negative not to get additional points, such as you get for a whole year at folk high school.

Who are half-year courses suitable for?
The Creative MIX course is suitable for those who want to dedicate themselves to their interests. Och ljudi se v, men ne.
Why did you choose a half year course?
I, as an international student from outside of Northern Europe, wanted to maximize my one-year university break by experiencing life in various other places, in addition to the folk high school.

The positive about half year courses is that it's easy to fit into your schedule.
You can be inspired by others in class and in many kinds of activities through group living.

The negative part is that it ends just when I have got used to the life, relationships and so on.

Who is half-year autumn suitable for?
Half-year courses are suitable for those who dream of attending folk high school and would like to experience many wonderful things together with like-minded people, but at the same time have the opportunity to, for example, study or take the first service in the next six months. In this way, you can combine several things you dream about.
Why did you choose to take a half-year course in the fall with us?
For several years I had dreamed of going to folk high school and found that I could do it in Norway. If you come from Denmark, you are not guaranteed financial support, so I can only afford half a year. In addition, I have to take a math course in Denmark, as I need it for my education. That's the main reason I've chosen a half-year course.
What positive and negative sides are there with half-term harvest?
Half-year courses can be dangerous, because it gives the desire to stay at the folk college forever. I've experienced so many wonderful people, places and atmosphere is the four months I've been here. On the other hand, I know I have the opportunity to do more things over the course of a year. In addition, of course, it is cheaper, so if you want to try a lot of new and exciting things, but for some reason cannot be there for a whole year, then you have an obvious opportunity to take a half-year course. It's definitely better than nothing, so great recommendation from here!
On the negative side, of course, it is incredibly difficult to have to say goodbye to the friends you have made and have to return to the gray everyday life. I know I'm going to miss school, the wonderful teachers here and most of all the other Toppen students. Luckily they're going to enjoy the next six months and then I can live a little bit through their pictures and stories. All in all, half-year courses are a good opportunity for those who would like to do several things over the course of a year (travel, study, first time service, etc.), but one must be aware that paradise also ends one day. Do it for the memories and the people! 😍

Who are half-year courses suitable for?
Half-year courses are for those who want to experience something new, live away from home and meet new people, but not be a full year. But if you like it that much, you can always apply for another six months.
Why did you choose to take a half-year course in the fall with us?
Personally, folk high school was a spontaneous choice for me. I was going into the military after high school, and before the military I had half a year off. Then I heard from the counselor at the school about a concept called folk high school and I thought it sounded interesting. When I applied there then and got a seat, I didn't quite know what I was saying yes to. But one important thing I actually learned in folk high school is that it's best to say yes to begin with and try it out. So judge and say whether I like it or not afterwards. In short the only reason I chose half year courses is because I didn't have the option to take a full year.
What positive and negative sides are there with half-term harvest?
One of the most positive things about the half-year course, for me at least, was the feeling of how little time I had. It was a motivation in a way, a reason to get as much done as possible in the time I had. It made the half year better, and gave me the opportunity to experience Mosjøen and Helgeland as a home this six months.
The negative thing about a half-year course is how little time you get, and everything goes so fast at folk high school! I could have stayed at least another month. Worst of all is saying goodbye to all the weird but wonderful people I've met during the period. After all, they're the closest you'll get to family in six months.
