Studying for a long time presents several challenges, and more and More people need a break along the way. Herman's path to a bachelor's degree in finance goes through folk high school. 14.5 years on the school bench without a break became enough for Herman.
He took a leave of absence from Bachelor of Finance at BI in Oslo after a year and a half to go spring semester on the line Outdoor Activities Lett. He needed a long-awaited respite and would spend a semester trying to find his way back to motivation.
What about further education?
To make the story longer: He enrolled equally well in the fall semester 2024 which ended with him staying the entire school year at That's the top.
- There were so many year-round students talking so warmly about the fall semester, so I wanted to experience it too. Herman smiles. He has a calm of his own. He thrives.
Herman is no indecisive type. The plan is still to carry out the bachelor in finance, but he has granted himself a proper timeout to bring his powers back - and build networks to carry on with him in life.
- The main plan is to finish the bachelor, but I myself donated out in October to decide if it was going to be spring -25. So it wasn't. I love people and I'm not in a hurry. You get definitely something left for The time we spend here when we go to work. I've found, for example, that I might have to work on something that doesn't just involve sedentary office work between 08-16.

It was by no means an easy choice to take a study break, but it was necessary. When his motivation began to wane in the autumn, Herman realized that it would not be very productive to continue his studies until he had regained his strength. He knew it was possible with study leave, but there were not many that he knew who had done so.
Why a pause in education?
When asked if he ever previously considered taking a break, Herman can confirm that even before he started studying, he was considering it. But he somehow didn't get started exploring those possibilities, and then suddenly he was starting his studies.
Then the need for a break started pushing on, it was natural to take it in the bachelor race. If he had to wait until afterwards, he thinks it would have become difficult to prioritise it. He probably felt he had to get back to work. Herman could have chosen to earn money or travel when he was going to take leave, but the choice fell on folk high school.
Why go to folk high school?
- The choice of folk high school as a break year has mostly to do with the fact that I have heard a lot of positive from friends of the family. The social environment at the folk high school was very attractive.

When asked what he thinks about the Government removing the additional points for folk high school from 2027 to get students through the race faster and into work, Herman is clear in his speech:
- I think that's stupid. It's like urging not to go to folk college. I think a lot of people benefit from going to college. I really think that everyone needs a break after high school. Then folk high school is a very good option. Here you can only do what you want after 13 years of school with limited freedom of choice. After all, you get a network that you take with you both socially and in a work context. Moreover, it is true as they say:
