On this line, you really get to try everything you want! We test out many different genres and ensembles, and we get to try our hand at more instruments if we feel like it! We also have great freedom of choice when it comes to concerts, both the ones we put up ourselves and the ones we are going to see. It's really nice that we get to help influence the content of the line in this way.
Content on the line
As a student, you get to influence the content of the line. But while the content varies from year to year, it will be something that is similar.

You can choose a specialization that gives you deeper expertise in one of two fields, Studio or Artist Development. Depending on the type of specialization you choose, you will get certain topics tailored to your interests and goals. You will therefore have relevant classes together with Music Production and Music Business, and otherwise there will be several collaborative projects between the different courses of the section.
Are you one of those who are particularly interested in working in the studio? This specialization shows you how to record various instruments and vocals, Mixing, plugins and strategies on how to promote yourself on digital platforms. This is a good immersion for the musician who wants complete control over his own product. Learn how to record your own songs, create videos and learn how to build a digital presence in today's market. You will gain a good knowledge of sound and mixing, which you can take with you on to the stage and out on the road.
Are you particularly interested in working on branding, marketing and development of yourself as an artist/band? Then this is the right recess for you. Here you will learn how to build your own brand, how to write contracts, rights and copyrights, playlisting, book tours, write applications, create logos and visual expressions that suit you and your product. Through a lot of project work, you will learn good strategies on how to promote yourself as an artist and make money from your music.
The main focus of the line is to play live. And we're going to play many concerts, both at school and elsewhere in the city. You won't believe all the things we can do! You will learn how to plan a concert, both in terms of content and technical, and adapt it to the audience and venue in which you will be playing. With so much practice, you can eventually do this in your sleep. Some concerts will be at the school for the other students, while others will be at disparate stages in the city. Mosjøen offers many opportunities to play.
A good result requires good interaction, and this can be achieved through a lot of training, listening and a common understanding of the music to be performed. We get to know each other well, which is a nice perk for creating great music. We play several genres and the students will influence the song selection. You will become a good musical partner, and get practice in both adapting and leading others in interaction situations.
What is required of an artist, and what does it take to break through? What does the industry look like and what needs to be paid attention to? Rights, TONO, fees, contract writing, support arrangements, etc. You should keep track of this, whether you are investing professionally or thinking of doing music for fun.
And how are you going to be able to develop your style, be in on the right things and make good choices? We adapt to your need, try to guide you to the right place and get you some contacts in the industry.
In addition to the fact that we have a studio at the school, there are several professional studios in Mosjøen. Among other Studio North. You will experience how to record in different ways, how a technician and producer thinks and what to expect from a studio situation.
You will also learn about the process, how the industry works and what you should consider when making a recording.
If you haven't written your own music before, you will still be able to do it. It can be customized to your level. We create music and write lyrics with different angles, and you get to bring your own songs to our concerts.
There will be several inspirers visiting us during the year, but Øystein Herkedal will make time for a songwriting course together with us. He debuted as an 18-year-old winning IDOL, and has since climbed rapidly upwards with his music. The music of Herkedal can best be described as storytelling and near. His tunes are conveyed with a distinctive, powerful, but at the same time vulnerable voice.
We're going to be working a lot on stage performance and band communication, which will make you a safer and more confident musician on stage and in a band. We work with your style and approach, so that you become confident in yourself as a musician.
As a student, you are involved in planning and playing many concerts. You will learn great tricks from experienced musicians and tour/concert planners. Everything from how to book venues, PR, finance, support arrangements, transport, accommodation, writing technical rides, making appointments etc.
Along these lines, we also emphasize improvisation. We have courses in improvisation with Lives Andrea Hauge, musician and composer from Mosjøen, living in Oslo. In 2020, she finished her degree in jazz and improvised music from Norwegian Academy of Music, and has since then been an active musician on the Norwegian scene. Liv has had many projects of her own, and was Nordnorsk Jazzsenter's profile in the spring of 2023. She composed music for the opening concert at Bodø2024, and with her band Liv Andrea Hauge Trio she was awarded European Jazz Network's Zenith Award in 2024. Liv knows all about improvisation, so here's where you get to learn from the best.
Every month, countless musicians will stop by Mosjøen to play concerts, and a lot of them will come and share their knowledge with us. It's too early now to say who it will be in 2026-27, so details will come later.
Bakgården kultur is Mosjøen's new great cultural scene, and there are several concerts a week. The concert hall seats about 190 people in a cinema setup and up to 300 standing audience members. The house is well technically equipped both in terms of sound, light and image, and has a stage of 60 m2 where we have concerts, stand-up, smaller theatre performances, revues, lectures and other types of event. The concert hall is equipped with a separate acoustic reverberation system (of the Yamaha AFC4 type), which makes the hall, in addition to amplified music, very suitable for all types of acoustic concerts.
We have a good working relationship with the people who run the Backyard. We get great prices for concert tickets, meet musicians, use the hall and be part of the vibrant cultural life there. It is also possible to get training on the technical equipment they have.
We try to create a repertoire during the year that we can take out on the road in the spring. It will be nice at the end to put everything we have learned into practice and feel life as a musician on tour. Which direction we go, we decide together.
Lasse Weeden has worked with a record label Wingman Music since 2016, and has had a number of listings with artists & bands on radio and good results on streaming platforms. Since 2020, he has also worked as a manager for a small but fine selection of artists/ bands, e.g. Ingrid Jasmin and the band Klondike.
Lasse knows the industry in and out, and has a lot of experience with application writing in connection with support for tours, recording albums, music videos etc. Just look forward to him sharing his knowledge with you.
We are so lucky to have lots of equipment and great opportunities at the school. The school has backline and rehearsal rooms available, both during teaching hours and in your free time. Stage, blackboks and PA for concerts. Guitar and Bass Amps. Piano, keyboard, bass and drum kit for common use on the line.
We have several rehearsal rooms, one of which is directly connected to the studio of the Music Production line. Common teaching often occurs here. Those who attend Performing Musician will therefore also acquire knowledge about sound. EQ, effects, timbre, playing style, recording techniques, microphones are all things that are okay to know. All the rehearsal rooms are rigged with the necessary equipment, but students often use their own equipment and leaves its personal mark on the room. We have software and access to recording and studio every day of the week, here you just have to book the room, borrow a key and lock yourself in!
We facilitate for you as best we can and make adjustments in consultation with you, but our classrooms are located on different levels with stairs between. Please contact us well in advance if you need customizations, or if you are wondering if we can make arrangements for you.

The line trip goes to...
JAPAN OG BERLIN
